Why Do Dentists Take So Many X-Rays?

By August 7, 2017Ask the Expert

X-rays allow dentists to diagnose diseases of teeth and tissues that cannot be seen in avisual examination. Abscesses, small cavities between teeth and bone loss may not be symptomatic and can only be diagnosed with the appropriate imaging. We like to diagnose infectious processes while they are stillsmall so we can treat them conservatively.Preservation of tooth structure is always our ultimate goal and regular x-rays allow us to be conservative.
